Ladies, it's cocktail time!
The Grand Ladies Day of 19 September will be inspired by James Bond & Casino-Royale. Seeing as agent 007, Bond… James Bond, is known for his love for martinis and casino games; we only thought it suitable to indulge you with some basic cocktail knowledge.
Everybody, even those who’ve never seen a James Bond movie, probably knows the catch phrase “I’ll have a Martini – shaken, not stirred”. But did you know Mr. Bond’s explicit request for his cocktail to be shaken is not just an excellent catchphrase for the films? He also requests it because there’s a basic thumb rule about cocktail mixing: clear cocktails are usually stirred, whereas cloudy cocktails are usually shaken. Whether you prefer a Vodka Martini or a Gin Martini, they both are clear cocktails; so they used to be stirred. That is why James Bond always mentions it.
If this caught your attention and you wish to know more about how James Bond likes his cocktail, you can discover the Vesper Cocktail recipe here.
However, since it is not just a James Bond event, but also a ‘Ladies Only’ event, we have come up with the perfect compromise: The Cosmopolitan!
The women’s show ‘Sex and The City’ helped build the notoriety of the Cosmopolitan cocktail into a worldwide known ‘ladies cocktail’ in the 90’s. And seeing as this lovely pink libation is traditionally served in a Martini glass, it seems to be the perfect drink for a ‘Ladies Only & Casino Royale’ themed party.
Here are some small facts on a Cosmopolitan:
- It is a pink drink, thanks to the mixed in cranberry juice
- It is typically garnished with a lime wedge or its peel
- It is made out of Vodka as primary alcohol substance and triple sec as a modifier (= 2ndalcoholic ingredient)
- It is easy to make
- Shouldn’t be too sweet, but rather a slightly tart and well-balanced cocktail.
- It tastes at its best when served in a cold glass
- It was the favorite drink of Carrie Bradshaw in the show Sex and The City
